Climate-Smart Grazing Management Planning Training for Conservation Planners

A field day for conservation planners and technical assistance providers to build skills and knowledge

Join the North Coast Soil Hub for a field day on resource assessments, carbon dynamics in rangeland agroecosystems, and grazing management in the carbon farm planning context. This opportunity is designed to improve the ability of conservation planners to develop grazing management recommendations within carbon farm plans and increase knowledge and familiarity of current grazing management strategies.

Event details: Wednesday, June 5, 2024 from 9am-4:30pm at Eames Ranch in Sonoma County. Lunch will be provided.

Topics include:

  • Resource Assessments
  • Grazing Management & Carbon Farm Planning
  • Carbon dynamics in rangeland systems

Who should register: Carbon farm planners and other technical assistance providers who would like to increase their knowledge of climate-smart grazing management strategies and resource assessment tools. Priority registration will be given to employees of Resource Conservation Districts, USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service, University of California Cooperative Extension, and Point Blue Conservation Science.

About the event: Ranchers and dairy operators seek climate-smart technical assistance related to grazing management, soil health management, livestock health, biodiversity, and enhanced resilience and viability on North Coast rangelands. Join the North Coast Soil Hub for a training opportunity for technical assistance providers to build skills and knowledge related to adaptive rangeland management in order to better serve our local agricultural communities.

In the North Coast, carbon farm plans have been developed for 50 ranches and dairies. As the pace and scale of carbon farm planning increases, there is a need to build local capacity to develop grazing management components of ranch and dairy carbon farm plans that meet producer needs. Supported by the USDA-NRCS Grazing Lands Conservation Initiative, Resource Conservation Districts of the North Coast Soil Hub are offering this opportunity as part of a grazing management training series aimed at improving the ability of conservation planners to develop grazing management recommendations within carbon farm plans and increasing knowledge and familiarity of current grazing management strategies.
