MWI is bringing together some of the sharpest talents in the wine industry to share their thoughts on the Mendocino region and present ways in which our winegrowers can become even more competitive in the ever-changing world of premium grapes and wine.
Keynote speaker, Christian Miller of Full Glass Research, will present an overview of consumer trends, how Mendocino wines stack up in the marketplace and current research on wine tourism.
Wine industry and labor law specialists, Jennifer Douglas Phillips and Greg Walsh of Dickenson, Peatman and Fogarty, will speak on labor and employment issues, current challenges and recent regulatory changes.
Dr. Kaan Kurtural, UC Davis Cooperative Extension Viticulture Specialist, will speak on improving production efficiency in the vineyard by using mechanization and resource management, a timely topic given the difficulties in sourcing ample vineyard labor.
Cannabis and its potential impact on the wine industry and agriculture in general, will be discussed by attorney Erin Carlstrom of Rogoway Law Group. What are the current regulations regarding wine and cannabis here in Mendocino County, and how do they factor into the future of our region’s tourism?
Turrentine Wine Brokerage experts, Mike Needham and Marc Cuneo, will present statistics on the grape and wine bulk market, and Bill Pauli of Yokayo Wine Company, will discuss the financial realities of custom crushing grapes into wine.
Local vineyard and winery real estate specialists, Tom Larson and Tony Ford of Norcal Vineyards, will speak on recent acquisitions and agricultural land values in Mendocino and on the North Coast.
The Economic Summit will be held at the Ukiah Valley Conference Center from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Lunch will be served, compliments of American Ag Credit, Savings Bank of Mendocino County and Anderson Valley Winegrowers Association.
